One of Miss Bamboo's most recent adventures took her on a business (ok and pleasure!!) trip to Oahu and Honolulu, the state capital of Hawaii. This beautiful city is renowned for Waikiki beach and its iconic image of Diamond Head, backdrop to films such as Blue Hawaii and From Here to Eternity and is now one of Miss Bamboo's favourite places, she has ever been so fortunate to visit!
Where did we stay? The Hotel Bamboo of course!
How amazing is this swimming pool!
The Hotel Bamboo was fabulous. I would highly recommend it as it was such good value with great service, lovely staff and friendly atmosphere. I just loved that there was bamboo everywhere of course, even in the lift. There certainly couldn't be a better place for Miss Bamboo to stay! www.aquabamboo.com
Time for a cocktail on Waikiki, Diamond Head in the background, wearing our Trashy Diva 'Pearl Harbour' sarong http://www.missbamboo.co.uk/PBSCProduct.asp?ItmID=8673181
Big Bamboo is not renowned for his surfing abilities but nevertheless has fun posing with an iconic Waikiki Surfing sculpture! ;-)
Ukulele Heaven, did you know Miss Bamboo plays a little with her trio Miss Bamboo and the Coconuts. They would love this store methinks! Click on the link for a little tune!
A 'newly learned' jam of 'Honolulu Baby' by Miss Bamboo and The Coconuts
Next on the agenda, Hula Shows galore.....
You can always catch a Hula show on Waikiki, we were lucky to find 3 in one night starting with the lovely Nicole of the Bamboo Hotel.
Of course you cant visit Waikiki without a trip to 'Dukes' restaurant.
Duke Paoa Kahanamoku was Hawaii's most famous citizen and the "Father of International surfing". Born August 24, 1890 in Honolulu he grew up in carefree Waikiki with the ocean as his playground, doing
what he loved – mostly swimming, surfing, canoeing and bodysurfing. At the age of 21 he won his first Olympic gold medal,
then went on to represent the United States in the Olympics for 20
years, winning not only medals but the hearts of people all over the
world. He is remembered as a swimmer not just for remarkable speed, but
for his grace in the water, his good humor, and his sportsmanship.
Once again Big Bamboo gets in on the act and fantasises that he too is an adored historical surfer and pal of Duke...and he's only got one lei, poor Big Bamboo ;-)
Serenaded in Dukes by these wonderful ladies, inspiration for Miss Bamboo and the Coconuts!!
Honolulu is an amazing place but i cant possibly tell you everything in one blog! So for now we say goodbye or 'a hui kaua' to Waikiki but look out for the next edition for tales of 'Tiki' and glamour at 'The Pink Palace' . In the meantime, check out Miss Bamboo's new 'Honolulu Honey' sarong and bolero.....
